1. What are Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems?

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems integrate the data from all functions and locations of an organization into a single system. ERP systems have many components including hardware and software. ERP systems are cross-functional and enterprise- wide providing a unified database to store information and integrate the different business functions of an organization such as Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing, Warehouse Management, Financials, Human Resources and Customer Relations Management. These functions, which once used stand alone software applications, usually housed with their own database and network, can now all fit under one umbrella - the ERP system.

ERP systems can cater to any type of company whatever the size (small, mid-sized or large) or nature (manufacturing or service concern).

2. Why should I implement an ERP system in my organization?

If your company is using many independent systems to handle its different functions then implementing an ERP system would be a viable option for you. It helps eliminate the need for external interfaces previously required between systems. All functional departments that are involved in operations and production are integrated in one system providing a common information database that is easily accessible and eliminates redundancy. Unified information database means more efficient and effective decision making resulting in greater control, higher profitability and growth.

Implementing an ERP instead of islands of stand-alone software leads to standardization and lower maintenance since there is one system instead of having many independent ones.

A company should implement an ERP
  • If it is wasting a lot of time and resources in integrating the different business functions
  • If there is a gap between the demand and the service providing capability of the organization
  • If the efficiency in achieving goals, objectives and targets is deteriorating

3. When should I consider implementing an ERP system?

Today no company can survive in this competitive environment without having proper MIS and transaction processing systems available to it. So implementing an ERP is no longer a question of ‘if’ but a question of ‘when’.

4. What are the factors to be considered when selecting an ERP system?

  • Analyze the capabilities of your vendor. A good vendor must have an extensive understanding of business functions along with solution expertise.
  • Check if your vendor has proper information on security systems
  • Review his infrastructure
  • Study the organization and reassure yourself if a long term relationship is possible with that company. Long term relationships are important as ERP is a process which will take time to get implemented
  • Observe your own organization’s culture; are your employees technologically savvy or are they uncomfortable with the idea of information systems. This is critically important because if the users are reluctant to accept and adopt a solution, the whole exercise is wasted.

However the most important aspect of any ERP implementation is that your organization takes ownership of the project. It would help you to take the following measures:

  • Establish a visible, well-supported project team that will maintain thorough communication with our team. We’ll help in assessing the abilities of the project team to understand and address enterprise system requirements.
  • Prepare your organization for the new system. Implementing an ERP generally requires process change and improvement. Make sure your people are willing to accept the new system and the changes associated with it.

10. How expensive and time consuming is the implementation of SigmaTec's Enterprise Applications?

The span of implementation for SigmaTec Unify depends usually on the size of the solution, the size of the client company, number of users and locations being integrated, infrastructure requirements as well as the users’ willingness to adopt the ERP solution.

If the solution configuration is smaller consisting of some components and not the entire application, the implementation time gets reduced accordingly. Hence the implementation time can range anywhere from 2 months to 1 year.

SigmaTec Unify is cost effective and can be acquired and implemented at only 20-25% of the cost of a foreign solution.
